LHS Athletic Update - 4/7/20

I hope all of Tiger Nation is doing well.  Please continue to be vigilant with social distancing.  It has been great to see all the videos and pictures of our student-athletes getting creative with their exercise routines and sport workouts.  I am truly amazed at our student-athletes passion for sport!

I wanted to take a minute to give a brief update on athletic related items for LHS.

Unfortunately, with the state of Indiana deciding to keep school buildings closed for the rest of the school year and having schools function by using e-learning, the IHSAA made the decision to cancel the spring sports season.  This is very heartbreaking to me and our student-athletes, coaches, parents, and community members.  There is nothing that can replace a lost season completely, but we can do some things that eases the pain a bit.

We have been posting Senior Spotlights on the web-site and Twitter for Spring Sport Seniors and will continue to post them until we have recognized all the Spring Sports Seniors.

Also, if a student-athlete has committed to a college, to play a sport next year, and we were not able to do an official signing at the school.  Please send me a picture of the student-athlete and his/her family wearing shirts of the new school to be posted on the web-site to recognize the student-athlete for his her/accomplishments.

Some other plans are in the works to recognize spring sports athletes and teams in the near future.  Details will come at a later date.  This includes a plan regarding spring sports teams to have the ability to award student-athletes letters for the spring sports season.  Though, if letters are awarded to a spring sports athlete, those athletes must be academically eligible by the end of the school year.  This means students should be registered in at least five classes this semester.  They also should have passed at least five classes this semester too.

Please also, ensure that our student-athletes are maintaining their grades and staying academically eligible.  This is very important for student-athletes that plan to play sports in the fall, you must be passing five classes at the end of this semester.  Also, if you are planning to play a sport next year in the fall or the winter, student-athletes should be enrolled in at least five classes, preferably six classes or more, to compete.

The school corporation is working on a protocol to pick-up student belongings at some point.  Once that is finalized we will announce a plan for student-athletes to pick up belongings from locker rooms and winter sport senior banners.  Please stay tuned for this information.

It is our hope that we will be able to have summer activities, like summer PE and workouts, but at the moment all of that is up in the air.  Stay tuned for more information.

The schedules for the 2020-2021 school year are nearly complete.  Hopefully, by sometime next week, they will be posted on the LHS Athletic web-site.

In the meantime please continue to practice social distancing, keep getting exercise, stay healthy, and pray for those that need to recover from this virus.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Athletic Office.

Go Tigers!
